  • Introduced to the public by Omega in 1957, the Speedmaster was designed for mainly sporting purposes, such as motor racing. However, its fate took a completely different turn in the early 1960s. Astronauts going to space, some of whom wore a Speedmaster for private use, wanted to be officially equipped with a reliable, accurate and resistant watch. For this reason, NASA undertook a series of rigorous tests in extreme conditions in 1964 to select the best chronograph to accompany them on their space missions. The Omega Speedmaster won these tests and was officially certified (“Flight Qualified for All Manned Space Missions”) by NASA on March 1, 1965 for the Gemini project. It was in July 1969 that it truly made history, serving the astronauts of the Apollo 11 mission (Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins) for man’s first steps on the Moon.

  • THIS HEUER AUTAVIA HAS COOL BY THE BUCKETFUL, AND IS A VERY HANDSOME PIECE. MODEL REFERENCE 1163T

The Autavia was launched in 1969 with the calibre 11 movement, which claims some right to be considered the first automatic chronograph movement (disputed by both Seiko with the 6139 and Zenith with the El Primero). The model was phased out by 1972, and by then these were offered at a discount if you bought a carton of Viceroy cigarettes – hence the nickname. CONDITION This watch is in great condition. The dial is original, as are the hands, and both are in good condition. The unidirectional tachymeter bezel is overall good with just small marks, the most noticeable at 63. The automatic movement is all working nicely, with the chrono hands snapping back perfectly. The leather strap is new. The buckle is a modern one from the reissued Heuer models. This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity. SIZE Width with crown 45.3 mm Width without crown 42.3 mm Between lugs 20 mm Lug to lug length 47.4 mm Case Thickness 16.2 mm All sizes are approximate.
